Processing your insurance claim

As the owner of the vehicle, you will need to report the accident to the insurance company. From that point on, Precision Auto Body will handle your claim.

A few things to keep in mind about the claims process:

Reporting the Claim
You will need to do this as soon as possible after the loss in order to prevent needless delays. If you are given a claim number at this time, please write it down as it will be needed if we contact the insurance company on your behalf. You should also write down the name and phone number of the person you spoke with.

Contact Precision Auto Body
Our office staff is trained to ask you the questions that will allow us to assist you in an efficient manner. Because each insurance company has different procedures, the information we ask you for will vary based on your circumstances.

Insurance Company Repair Programs
Precision Auto Body has agreements with several insurance companies to write the estimate and perform the repairs to your vehicle without having an insurance appraiser directly involved. We will provide all the necessary documentation to the insurance company that will be paying for the repair work.

If the Insurance company writes the estimate
If repairs are being paid for by a company that Precision Auto Body does not have a specific agreement with, the insurance company will usually assign their own appraiser to write an estimate. They may do this at your home, work, or possibly a drive in claims center. Should this estimate be incomplete, an Precision Auto Body Customer Service Representative will contact the insurance company during repairs so the appraiser can reinspect the damage. During this reinspection, this additional damage will be pointed out to the appraiser so that the additional costs can be approved.

Payment for Repairs
In most cases, Precision Auto Body will bill the insurance company directly for their portion of the amount due. Some companies will mail the payment directly to you in which case you will need to bring it with you when you pick up your completed vehicle. Your Customer Service Representative will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding payment.

ESTIMATES

If your vehicle is safe to drive following an accident, it is recommended that you call Precision Auto Body to schedule an estimate. Although an appointment is not required, it will eliminate the possibility of a lengthy wait when you arrive.

A few things to keep in mind about estimates:

Free Estimates
There is no charge to obtain an estimate from Precision Auto Body.

Scheduling an Estimate
When you make that first call to us, we will obtain all the vital information necessary for processing your claim with the insurance company. We will also answer any questions you may have regarding the claim and repair process.

Estimates on non-drivable vehicles
Simply give us a call and we will arrange to have your vehicle towed to the shop. The estimate will be written in 1 to 2 business days and you will be contacted by phone with the results.

Estimates are not final repair bills
It is very common to find supplemental damage during the actual repair. Our preliminary estimate only covers the damage we can see. Other damage may be found when parts are removed and the repair technician performs a detailed damage analysis. Insurance companies expect this and each has a specific procedure that the Customer Service Representative follows so that all loss related damage is documented and billed to the company that owes for the repairs.

If you do not want to turn the claim in to your Insurance company:
Many customers do not want to turn a claim in to their insurance company because of potential rate increases. If you are paying for the repair yourself, you will be informed during the repair of any changes in the estimate prior to that portion of the work being completed.

Estimates written by the insurance company
If the insurance company or an independent appraisal firm writes an estimate on your vehicle, it is not necessary to obtain one from us. We will work off their estimate and negotiate with them for any changes that are necessary to provide you an excellent repair.

Multiple Estimates
Years ago it was necessary to obtain estimates from several different collision repair shops and submit them to the insurance company. Now you decide where you want the vehicle repaired and get one estimate.
